Atherton Tablelands Tour Itinerary

Our one day Atherton Tablelands Tour takes you outside of the city and gives you the chance to soak up the spectacular beauty that surrounds Cairns. We like to give our guide some flexibility with the itinerary to make the most of the conditions on the day and adapt the tour to the group. What we can guarantee is plenty of amazing scenery, spectacular waterfalls and heaps of fun!

For the day, you’ll have the chance to experience the incredible landscape of the Atherton Tablelands, taking in some of the region’s best swimming spots and marvelling at the stunning array of wildlife that characterises the area. Keep your eyes peeled throughout the day for some of Australia’s most elusive native animals – from cassowaries, platypuses and tree kangaroos.

We’ll start the day by driving up the Gillies Range through incredible scenery. We’ll stop off at the famous Cathedral Fig Tree to admire the towering ancient tree’s tentacle-like appearance. We’ll continue to travel on through the picturesque countryside which is peppered with mesmerising waterfalls. We’ll stop off at these pristine falls for photo opportunities and refreshing swims – so be sure to bring your bathers and camera along. Millaa Millaa Falls is a popular highlight of the day – be sure to get your hair flick photo! Take a dip in the rock pools at Josephine Falls and chill on the sandbanks or have fun on the natural rock slide! Some of the other waterfalls we often visit include Ellinjaa Falls, Zillie Falls, Dinner Falls and Nandroya Falls.

You’ll have another chance to splash about at Lake Eacham, an extinct volcano crater that’s filled with crystal clear water perfect for swimming. Take in the impressive scenery of the region at some of the lookout points we enjoy along the way. There are plenty of opportunities to soak up the lush rainforest scenery before we head back to Cairns.
