Our guided tours handle the driving and, on many tours, the pickup, so the reef, the rainforest, Kuranda and the Tablelands are all within reach. Here’s how, and every one is booked directly with us.

Reef and Island Tours

The ocean is right on Cairns’ doorstep, and getting out to the reef or the islands is one of the easiest car-free days you can plan.

Green Island is a coral cay reached by boat from Marlin Marina, walkable from most city hotels. You can snorkel off the beach, explore the island’s small rainforest interior, or spend the day on the sand. The calm, protected water suits first-time snorkellers and families. Our Green Island tour is a tour service rather than an open ferry ticket, so you travel out and back with the tour on the day.

Fitzroy Island is a similar boat trip from the marina, with a more active day: rainforest walking trails, snorkelling and fringing reef close to shore. Like Green Island, it’s a tour service for the day rather than a ticket you can use to return whenever.

The outer reef. For the full reef experience, our reef tours head out to the outer coral with snorkelling and diving options on board. These depart from the marina in the city, so there’s no car and no transfers to sort. A quick but important note: the reef boat won’t wait for late passengers, so aim to be at the Reef Fleet Terminal about 15 minutes early. Missing the boat because of lateness isn’t refundable.

Kuranda: Rainforest Village Without the Drive

Kuranda sits up in the rainforest above Cairns, and our Kuranda Skyrail and Scenic Rail experience is built to get you there without a car. You ride the Scenic Railway through the ranges past waterfalls and hand-cut tunnels, and glide over the canopy on the Skyrail cableway, with the transfers handled as part of the tour. Once you’re up there, wander the markets and the village at your own pace. Book the combined experience with us and everything is arranged for you.

Atherton Tablelands

The Tablelands rise behind Cairns into a cool, green plateau of rainforest, crater lakes and waterfalls. There’s no train or ferry up there, so a guided tour is the way to see it without a car. A typical day takes in crater lakes, a waterfall circuit and wildlife stops, with the tour handling every kilometre. Daintree and Cape Tribulation

The Daintree and Cape Tribulation sit a couple of hours north, across the Daintree River. A guided tour handles the drive, the river crossing and the day, so you arrive ready to enjoy it rather than stressed about the road. Short on Time?

A Note on Public Transport

Cairns has a local bus network for getting around the city and the northern beaches, but it doesn’t reach the reef, the Daintree, Cape Tribulation or the Atherton Tablelands. For those, a guided tour is the practical option, and it’s usually more comfortable and better value than piecing together connections that don’t exist.
