Green Island is a small patch of island off Cairns, and at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef.

In terms of what’s on the island? It’s an untouched slice of paradise. But it is, however, very populated with plenty of fish.
In the Great Barrier Reef, there’s lots of marine diversity – and Green Island is no exception! Even on land, you’ll be able to see crocs and a whole diversity of exciting birds.
There is plenty of marine life in the ocean that surrounds it…Most of Green Island’s population is in the ocean! There are a whole array of different marine animals that live in the waters around here. Grab your snorkel and get involved.

Marine Melanesia
This interesting museum displays a range of various marine life in a charming little museum. With dimly lit rooms that give all the attention to the aquarium boxes, illuminating the sight of colourful fish and exciting corals. It’s like watching the cast of Finding Nemo!
Ever wanted to see the oldest captive croc? Named ‘Cassius’ this old croc is well known in Far North Queensland for his old age.

Getting a glass bottom boat

Getting to Green Island will involve taking a glass bottom boat from the Cairns port. Going from the Reef Fleet Terminal, tours from Green Island leave each morning from the terminal.
You’ll be able to see a whole variety of different fish from the bottom of the boat. It’s an immersive experience where you can see the day-to-day ocean life.
Snorkel around the island
If you snorkel around the island, you’ll see a whole variety of different fish that all swim around the bottom of the boat.
