Green Island is a tropical island located off the Cairns coast in Queensland.
Green Island is a beautiful tropical island that is perfect for a day trip. Thankfully on the tropical island, swimming is allowed. You can swim between the flags in the patrolled area on the beach. You can also snorkel and dive on the island in the selected areas. Or you can swim in one of the island’s pools. If you go to Reflections Pool Bar, you can enjoy food and drinks near the pool.
Snorkelling
The best spot to snorkel on Green Island is under the jetty. Here, you’ll find coral and marine life – possibly even stingrays, turtles, and some fish! When snorkelling under the jetty, ensure you are on the resort side as on the other side is where boats come in and out. Another place to snorkel is offshore reefs where you can see a plethora of wildlife and coral. This is where you are most likely to see green turtles. You can hire snorkelling gear on the island or you bring your own. Please be mindful that your experience might be affected by the weather and the tide.
Helmet diving
Helmet diving allows you to go deeper into the water than snorkelling! Helmet diving is an incredible experience. You don’t need any experience with swimming or diving when doing helmet diving. Together with a qualified guide, you’ll walk underwater while being surrounded by marine life. When you are walking on the seafloor, you can come face-to-face with schools of fish, turtles, or other sea creatures. Helmet diving is a paid experience, and most tours offer it at an additional cost.
Scuba diving
Do you want to go even deeper? Go scuba diving. It’s a great way to explore the waters and swim with marine creatures. You don’t need to have any experience to be able to scuba dive. There will be instructors who teach you the basics of diving before you dive into the water. Before you dive, you will go on a quick boat trip to get out to deeper waters. It’s a great way to get up and close to the turtles or fish and swim with them.
Swimming, or exploring the underwater world at Green Island is a great opportunity. Once you have explored the waters, you can sit back and relax on the beach or explore the rainforest.
